We left Venice with a heavy heart, but there was so much more for us to explore! We had only two remaining days of our Italian adventure ahead of us, so we hopped on a train to Milan.
Milan was a beautiful, modern city but I have to admit that it felt a little bit underwhelming after visiting Cinque Terre, Rome or Venice. I did enjoy Duomo di Milano and its surroundings, but we were too tired to walk around further away. We ordered risotto alla Milanese for lunch, window-shopped for a while and then visited of the most unique Starbucks I’ve ever seen. At around 8pm we decided to call it a day, simply because we couldn’t wait for our next day adventure!
The last day in Italy was the most exciting day for us. We were heading to Argegno, a small village on Lake Como. The only purpose of this short day trip was to relax before returning back to Dublin and to finish our summer Italian holiday with a bang! Immediately after arriving and checking in to our hotel, we knew we couldn’t have picked better. The lake was beautiful. We were lucky that the weather was perfect for what we would do next – rent a boat.
I have always wanted to rent a private boat and here we had a perfect opportunity to do so. Dominik drove for the most part, but I tried it as well and it was so fun! We found a place in the middle of the lake and we stopped there and sunbathed. We were so exhausted from all the walking, eating and travelling so the rest was much needed! For the next three hours, we listened to music, occasionally dipped our legs into the water and just relaxed. It was definitely one of the best ideas we’ve ever had.
I have to say that I really fell in love with Italy. We’ve talked about this trip for years and being able to make it a reality was something I’ll be always grateful for. We’ve visited a lot of places in Europe, but Italy is one of the places I’d love to visit again.
