Iceland Ring Road: Day Two (Seljalandsfoss & Reynisfjara beach)

Once we hit the road the next day, I finally understood why it was so important for us to rent a camper van. Icelandic nature is something everybody should explore. It’s so magical and sometimes even overwhelming, especially for somebody who grew up in an industrial city like me. The hurricane was heading towards the inland so we decided to change our direction of travel and proceeded towards Reykjanes Peninsula. The first stop on our week-long road trip was a stop that we only planned a day ahead – Bridge Between the Continents.

Bridge Between the Continents is a unique bridge that shows where Euroasian and North American tectonic plates meet. It was one of the most memorable spots in Iceland for me because of this simple fact as it is not something you can do anywhere else.

The most impressive waterfall was the one we decided to visit next. Seljalandsfoss is a breathtaking waterfall with a drop of 60 meters, and definitely one of the most beautiful ones in Iceland. Ironically, it felt so peaceful there. Out of a sudden, it didn’t feel like we were escaping the hurricane anymore. Although there were many tourists and the water was splashing everywhere, exploring the surrounding area was fun. Skógafoss, a waterfall we visited right after, felt a bit underwhelming.

Our last and most anticipated stop of the day was Reynisfjara beach, a black sand beach near the small town of Vík. I deliberately planned our trip so we could end our day there, during sundown. I knew the view would be priceless and I was right. Unfortunately, as we were walking on the beach taking bunch of photos and videos, we got our feet soaked in the water so we quickly headed to our camping site for the night.
