We spent most of the day driving as we needed to catch up with our plans that had changed because of the hurricane. I didn’t plan anything specific that day, simply because I wasn’t sure we would have time to visit everything. So… we improvised. Before we decided to backtrack, though, we visited a place that was on my bucket list.
One thing that I felt like I would regret not visiting was Kirkjufell, so we made it a priority. It took us a few hours to get there and the weather was probably the worst since we left Reykjavík, but it was great. We actually took out our raincoats for the first time which was fun (putting them on was hilarious)!
After the first stop, we found a bistro and ordered us warm meal. One thing that I was actually disappointed about on our trip was Icelandic food. There wasn’t anything in particular that I wanted to try (other than Skyr), but I also couldn’t find anything interesting on the menu except fish and lamb. So, we decided to go with a hamburger, chicken and fries.
Our next stop was the Thingvellír National Park. We didn’t spend too much time there, partly because we were exhausted and partly because of the weather. It was raining for the rest of the day, so after the short walk in the park, we headed towards Geysír.
It was getting dark, so we didn’t have plenty of time to spare. The geothermal area was probably my favourite part of the day, as it wasn’t something I had the opportunity to see before. Seeing a geyser erupt was definitely fun. There were plenty of inactive ones there as well. By this point, we were exhausted and so we headed towards our last campsite of this trip!
