Lisbon was never a city that was high on my travel bucket list. I had plenty of other places in my mind that I wanted to visit first, but before we travelled to a beautiful island that belonged to Portugal, a short stop in Lisbon was very much expected as it was a part of the journey there. We’d never visited Portugal before, and we quickly discovered that its capital city was lovely.
After a small ride in a cute, yellow tram and a hotel check-in, we started our city exploration late in the afternoon. Our first stop was Manteigaria, a Portuguese bakery famous for Pastéis de Nata. Pastéis de Nata is a delicious custard tart pastry dusted with cinnamon that we instantly fell in love with and continued to order throughout our visit. When in Portugal, it is a must! We drank coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice while enjoying our snack!
After the quick snack, we walked the city’s promenade with a beautiful view of the Ponte 25 de Abril, one of the most iconic Lisbon landmarks. I wouldn’t be us if we didn’t take plenty of photos and drank beer while enjoying the scenery (it runs in the Czech blood, I swear). We continued walking towards the Belém Tower, and on our way there, we spotted Padrão dos Descobrimentos, a monument celebrating Portuguese explorers, and Lisbon’s Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology.
When we arrived at the Belém Tower, the tower was closed, and it was already dark outside, but we stayed and hung around for a bit. We finished our first night in Lisbon with a nice, warm dinner, and then we headed back to our hotel.
