A couple of months ago, me and my husband decided to take a short trip abroad once again. We wanted to spend a nice weekend in a new country and so we ended up booking a trip to Copenhagen! None of us had visited Denmark before and it seemed like a nice place to explore. We packed our bags and headed off to Copenhagen, filled with excitement and anticipation for the adventures that awaited us.
Our first stop was the iconic Nyhavn harbour. The colourful facades of the old houses and the historical wooden ships created a picturesque scene straight out of a postcard. We took a stroll along the canal, enjoying the vibrant atmosphere, and then went for a pint! (Unlike in other countries we had previously visited, this was one of the most expensive pints we had ever purchased!)
Cities interwoven with canals often offer a unique way of discovering the streets, allowing visitors and locals alike to experience the urban landscape from a different perspective. We hopped on a canal cruise and encountered hidden gems not visible from the main roads!
As you well know, I’m obsessed with amusement parks. If a city has one, there’s a good chance I’ll buy tickets and make a beeline for it. Well, Copenhagen has one right in the heart of the city: Tivoli Gardens. It is not only an amusement park but the centre of Copenhagen’s nightlife. Tivoli Gardens not only hosts plenty of roller coasters and beautiful gardens but also features live performances and a variety of dining options, ranging from casual eateries to gourmet restaurants. We spent the rest of our day there!
One of our favourite things to do while travelling is to eat! Copenhagen offers plenty of food options. From Gasoline Grill, known for its mouth-watering burgers that have earned a cult following, to the traditional Danish Smørrebrød, an open-faced sandwich topped with a variety of ingredients, we had to try it all! We crossed the Inner Harbour bridge and headed to Broens Gadekøkken to enjoy Copenhagen street food!
And then the next morning we ventured to Torvehallerne! Torvehallerne is a bustling food market and a popular destination that is home to different stalls and shops, offering a diverse range of products. Since I had set foot in Denmark, I knew I couldn’t leave the country without trying its famous Danish smørrebrød! As an Eastern European, I appreciate an open sandwich, so it didn’t disappoint. Dominik loved it as well!
Our next and final stop on our short trip to Copenhagen was Rosenborg Castle! The castle is set in the beautiful King’s Garden, which I adored because it offered me a great opportunity to practice my photography amid all the foliage. Copenhagen took me by surprise. I hadn’t anticipated enjoying the city as much as I did. It’s a perfect destination for a weekend away!
