Pico do Ariero is the third-highest peak on Madeira Island and offers a beautiful view of rugged cliffs and lush valleys. The following day, we woke up early in the morning and decided to drive to Pico do Ariero Viewpoint to witness its beautiful sunrise!
Seeing the clouds beneath us was mesmerising. We sat on the grass and had a quick snack, all while watching the incredible view in front of us. Experiencing moments like this is what makes travelling worth it. With a clear mind, you forget all your worries and watch the raw beauty of the world unfold before your eyes.
Continuing our journey, we ventured towards the Funchal Ecological Gardens. We met up with Epic Madeira Adventures, ready to embark on a thrilling adventurous experience – canyoning. Canyoning is an outdoor sport that involves navigating through canyons. Encountering various obstacles, such as waterfalls and steep descents, you climb, swim and jump into the cold waters to experience and explore nature in a thrilling way.
Dominik and I fell in love with it. When we met up with the rest of the group, we changed into our gear and drove deeper into the heart of the canyons.
Funnily enough, the most difficult part was the hiking. The surface of the rocks was wet, and my thighs still hurt from the surfing from the previous day. It was jumping into the water that I enjoyed the most. I felt connected with nature every time I let go and jumped. It was liberating, but very intense at the same time.
Undoubtedly, canyoning was one of my favourite moments we experienced in Madeira. It was a great way how to finish our week-long Portugal trip. The island left us eager to continue our adventures in other corners of Portugal, but for now, Madeira remains my favourite place in this beautiful country.
